MO-09: O2B candidate Judy Baker leading
by brownsox
Orange to Blue candidate Judy Baker's focus on affordable health care, renewable energy and getting our tanking economy working again appears to be resonating in her conservative district.
So, too, are the latest series of DCCC ads, which eviscerate Republican Blaine Luetkemeyer for supporting the privatization of Social Security (a brilliant idea, I must say, especially as Wall Street collapses around us).
And it probably has not helped Luetkemeyer that one of his key cronies - the man who drafted his speech announcing his campaign and outlining his platform - has been indicted for distributing pornography to minors.
The latest poll for the DCCC in Missouri's Ninth District shows the progressive Democrat leading her Republican opponent by four points:
Global Strategy Group for the DCCC. 10/5-7. Likely voters. MoE 4.9%.
Baker (D) 40
Luetkemeyer (R) 36
Pre-meltdown, a September Research 2000 poll showed Baker trailing 49% to 40%. It's difficult to compare numbers across pollsters, but it's reasonable to assume that Baker has made significant gains since the economic meltdown - and ergo, that she's in good position to win this race.
It was never going to be easy for a Democrat to win a race in a conservative district such as this one - Bush got a healthy 59% in MO-09 back in 2004, and McCain will undoubtedly perform well there this year. It's doubly difficult for a Democrat who doesn't run from progressive ideals, a Democrat such as Judy Baker.
But by running an honest, thoughtful and forward-thinking campaign, she has put herself in a position to do just that...and you can help her seal the deal.
Throw the Republicans an anvil. Help Judy Baker beat back a carbon-copy Republican, and help send her to Washington.
