East Bay for Democracy, a fellow DFA organization, is planning on introducing a motion to censure Senator Dianne Feinstein at a meeting of the California Democratic executive committee this weekend.

Feinstein was one of only two Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee to vote to approve Michael Mukasey's nomination for Attorney General. Mukasey refused to admit waterboarding was torture.

Feinstein now says she supports granting legal immunity to telecom companies that shared customer email and phone messages with the federal government as part of the warrantless surveillance program.

Last fall, Congress eliminated the fundamental right of habeas corpus when it passed the Military Commissions Act. You can help reverse this assault on our American legacy of liberty by supporting the Habeas Corpus Restoration Act of 2007 (S.185) and sending a message to Congress.

Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont has put a form up on his website which will send an email to our home-state Senators to urge them to protect our fundamental civil liberties.

In general, our 10-Minute Actions are not quite this self-serving! However, this is the month of our annual membership drive, and while we thrive on the time and energy of passionate, committed volunteers... we can use those resources more effectively if we're well financed through our membership dues: $25 - individual, $40 - household, $15 - senior/student
